The only B-17E to serve with the 447th, also flew with the 303rd, 92nd, and 97th.  Declared war-weary, written off and salvaged in England during July, 1945.

42-5909 (Pathfinder)
Previously identified in several books as 42-31431 with the Chardi crew on board, this is clearly modified to carry the H2X radar system (white dome behind the nose turret).

Permanently assigned to the 482nd Bomb Group, providing pathfinders and radar crews to all groups in the 3rd Division in early 1944, flying with the 447th on February 2 mission to Frankfurt when hit by flak.

National Archives photo of aircraft from several groups at a repair depot (probably SAD Honington).  The Gimp was damaged over Dollenbergen on New Years Day 1945, and crash landed at the base.  It was written off and salvaged.
