Between 24 December 1943 and 21 April 1945, the 447th Bombardment Group flew 258 combat missions over Europe, comprising 8,229 sorties. More than 4,000 men served with the 447th, as combat crews, ground crews, base maintenance, and administrative officers and staff.

The material included on this site was compiled from my father's own documents and photographs; from records obtained from the National Archives and the Air Force Historical Research Agency over the course of a decade; and contributions of the group's veterans, their families and friends, for which I am extremely grateful.

This is a rebuild of the original site I created more than 20 years ago in honor of my father who served as a ball-turret gunner with the 447th in 1944, and all others who served in the Group. I am making my way through the hundreds of pages here, updating the ancient code. Some links may not work (yet), some pages include links to what is left of the original site (no longer under my control), and an email link for me that no longer works.
